Penguin Toad

Penguin Toad -or Pengin Kinopio as he’s known in Japan- is a power up for Blue Toad, Yellow Toad, and earlier this year Toadette. The power up first appeared in the New Super Mario Bros. Wii game in 2009 where it allows Mario, Luigi, and Blue or Yellow Toad to fire Ice Balls at enemy characters and freeze them! The frozen enemies can then be used as platforms or picked up and thrown at either walls or at other enemy characters.

The Penguin Suit costume also allows the wearer to control walking on ice easier and not to slide about as recklessly as before! Whilst wearing, the Penguin character can either slide at -and defeat- enemies or into Brick Blocks, to find secret areas hidden within the game. Swimming also becomes much easier when wearing the costume, although just like a real penguin; the characters are unable to fly.

Penguin Toad also returns in both the New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U games on Wii U although it can only be obtained in the Toad Houses on Superstar Road in the former game but appears more frequently in the latter game. The final platforming appearance for Penguin Toad is in the Nintendo Switch game New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe where it can be worn by Blue and Yellow Toads as before, and also now Toadette

One more appearance for Penguin Toads are in the Nintendo 3DS Mario Sports Superstars game where Blue and Yellow varieties can play on your team in Baseball whilst only Blue Penguin Toad can play on your Soccer team. The Blue Penguin Toad costume is in blue with lighter blue spots, where-as both the Yellow Penguin Toad and Penguin Toadette costumes are in black, but with yellow and pink spots respectively.
