Propeller Toad

Propeller Toad

Propeller Toad -or Puropera Kinopio as he’s known in Japan- is a power up for Blue Toad, Yellow Toad, and more recently Toadette. First appearing in the New Super Mario Bros. Wii game for Wii in 2009, where the Propeller costume can be used by Mario, Luigi, and Blue or Yellow Toad by using a Propeller Mushroom item. The four Mushroom Kingdom heroes can then fly upwards by shaking the Wii Remote to reach hidden items or escape from enemy characters.

The Propeller Suit returns in the Wii U games New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U where the Propeller Mushroom can be found in Superstar Road’s Toad Houses and Challenge Mode in the former game, but is more commonly found in Toad Houses throughout the latter title’s world. The most recent appearance of the Propeller Suit is in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for Nintendo Switch where Toadette can now wear the outfit and fly upwards!

The appearance of the Propeller Suit and attached Propeller Helmet corresponds with the colour of the wearer (red for Mario, green for Luigi, blue for Blue Toad, yellow for Yellow Toad, and pink for Toadette) with the character’s emblem on the side (‘M’ for Mario, ‘L’ for Luigi or a mushroom for the Toads) with a neat little propeller on top to round the outfit off! The Propeller Suit also appears in the Super Mario Maker games although is yet to be confirmed for the upcoming sequel.
