Cat Toad -or Neko Kinopio as he’s known in Japan- is one of the newer Toad characters, having only made his debut in the 2013 Wii U game Super Mario 3D World alongside Cat Mario, Cat Peach, Cat Luigi, Cat Rosalina, and even Meowser. The six characters are transformed into their feline form by using the Super Bell item. Cat Toad’s costume is blue, Cat Mario’s is yellow, Cat Luigi’s is green, Cat Peach’s is pink, Cat Rosalina’s is black, and Meowser’s is orange.
The Cat ability allows the protagonists to climb walls to find secrets within the game, to pounce at enemies from above and scratch-attack them with their claws, and even to climb the Goal Pole at the end of each level! The characters can also pick up a Lucky Bell item which transforms them into Lucky Cat form (Maneki-Neko in Japan) where the player can make bonus coins appear by using the Ground Pound ability.
Where-as Cat Mario and Cat Peach appear in Super Mario Maker via a Mystery Mushroom power-up, Cat Peach is playable as DLC in Mario Kart 8 (and from the start in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe), and both Cat Mario and Cat Luigi can be unlocked in Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition by clearing worlds 3 and 4 respectively; Cat Toad is sadly yet to make an appearance in a second video game or even appear on The Cat Mario Show (which stars Cat Mario and Cat Peach).
