Mini Toads are Toad toys that were first introduced in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series. However, they didn’t feature in the Game Boy Advance original in 2004 but first debuted in the Nintendo DS follow-up Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis. Where-as the original game only featured Mini Mario, the DS game added Mini Toad, Mini Peach, Mini Donkey Kong, and even Gold Mini Mario.
The Mini toys are produced and sold by the Mini Mario Toy Company (formerly called Mario Toy Company and known as Mini Mario Koujou in Japan) – a company that only appears in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series. The Mini Mario Toy Company is also responsible for the theme park, Super Mini Mario World, which also features in several of the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series’ titles.
The Mini Toads star in all six sequels, most recently the Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge Wii U and Nintendo 3DS title, and even more recently in Mario Kart 8 (and Deluxe) as spectators in the 8’s DLC track Ribbon Road which originally featured in the Game Boy Advance game Mario Kart: Super Circuit (although the Mini Toads weren’t in the audience in the GBA title).
Other notable aspects of the Mini Toad toys are a Fire version in March of the Minis. Mini Toad first appears as a Mini Blue Toad in the Nintendo DS title Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! In amiibo Challenge, Mini Toads are once again their original red form and are unlocked via using a Toad amiibo. Hopefully Mini Toad will make an appearance on Nintendo Switch in the coming months!
